Now all are cheerful with
The new year festival,
And, the thunder with the
Lightning dance' s arrival.
Today Baishakh has come to Bengal.
Children are, today, like the sun,
The adolescent look so bright
And the young females look
Like the full moon that shines at night.
The old are also beside themselves with joy after all,
Today Baishakh has come to Bengal.
People are exchanging New Year Greeting
With one another,
And forget to distinguish between
The cast and colour.
It will be very cheerful today to all the people-
Today Baishakh has come to Bengal
The Baishakhi fair will be held
In the village and the town,
Where girls will dance nicely
And boys will sing in the sweet tone.
People's dress for today will, of course, be traditional-
Today Baishakh has come to Bengal.
The fresh account books will be
Opened by the shopkeepers,
And sweets will be offered
To the clients or customers.
This day, through merrymaking, will be passed by the people-
Today Baishakh has come to Bengal.
Today the Crisnachura tree with its
Red flash dances,
And birds sing melodiously
Sitting in its branches.
Air will dance an aristocratic dance today over the jungle.
Today Baishakh has come to Bengal.
The poor have love for today,
Yet, they fear it extremely,
Because, the mighty nor'wester
May ruin them fatally.
Please Baishakh never cause any harm to all the poor people.
Today Baishakh has come to Bengal.
